What Inspired You To Write The Maze Runner?
I was inspired to write The Maze Runner after watching the movie. I thought it was a really cool concept and I wanted to see if I could write a book that was just as good, if not better. Plus, I love puzzles and mazes, so it was the perfect combination.
What Advice Would You Give Writers Who Want To Be Successful In The Publishing Industry?
James Dashner, author of The Maze Runner, shares his top tips for writers who want to be successful in the publishing industry. First and foremost, he says, read a lot. Not only will reading give you a better understanding of the craft, but it will also help you develop your own style. Secondly, he advises writers to write a lot. The more you write, the better you’ll become at honing your craft.
What Was It Like Writing The Scorch Trials?
I had a blast writing The Scorch Trials. It was definitely more intense than The Maze Runner, but that’s what I was going for. I wanted the readers to feel like they were right there in the action, and I think I accomplished that. Plus, I’m really proud of how Thomas has grown as a character throughout the series. He really matures from this cocky young guy into someone who has great leadership skills and is willing to do anything for his friends.
What Inspired You To Continue The Maze Runner Series?
When I wrote The Maze Runner, I had no intention of it becoming a series. But as soon as the book was published, readers started asking for more. They wanted to know what happened next, and so I continued the story. There are many stories to tell about Thomas and his friends after they escaped from the maze in Book One. For example, we’ll find out how Teresa developed her psychic powers and if WICKED is really all that bad.
