Depression
For as long as I can remember, I have always been a pretty happy person. I was never the type to get upset over small things and I always had a smile on my face. However, about a year ago, that all changed. I started feeling down for no reason and I couldn’t make myself be happy no matter how hard I tried. It was like a switch had flipped in my brain and everything was gray. I stopped hanging out with my friends, stopped doing the things I loved, and just overall stopped living. It was like I was existing in a world where everything was happening around me but nothing was really happening to me. Finally, after months of feeling this way, I decided to seek help from a therapist.
Anxiety
For as long as I can remember, I have always been a very anxious person. When I was younger, it manifested itself in things like being afraid of the dark or not wanting to go to school. As I’ve gotten older, it’s taken on different forms. I’m constantly worrying about things that might happen in the future or overthinking things that have already happened. It can be really tough to manage, but I’ve found that there are some things that help me cope. Writing, talking to friends and family, and exercise are all things that help me when I’m feeling anxious.
Bipolar Disorder
After being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, I began to see how it had affected my life in so many ways. I had always been a high-achiever, but now I realized that my mood swings and impulsive behavior were a result of my illness. I began to see how my disorder had shaped my personality and influenced my decisions. Through therapy and medication, I have learned to manage my disorder and live a happy and successful life.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
I was in a car accident when I was five years old. I don’t remember much about the accident itself, but I do remember the aftermath. I was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety. Through therapy and medication, I have been able to manage my symptoms and live a relatively normal life. PTSD has affected my relationships, my work, and my ability to cope with stress. But I am grateful for the progress I have made and for the support of my family and friends.
